Code of conduct

People learn fastest when they feel safe asking questions. So the burden of understanding sits with whoever is explaining, not whoever is asking. If an explanation doesn’t land, it needs another attempt, not a sigh.

• No question is too basic. Everyone here was new to something recently.
• If someone doesn’t get it, explain it another way: an example, a diagram, a smaller step.
• Make help actionable. Say what to try next, share the command or snippet, link the exact page. “Just Google it” isn’t help.
• Back claims with evidence where you can: a source, a measurement, code someone can run. “I’m not sure” beats a confident guess.
• If you share an answer from an AI tool, check it first and say where it came from.
• Skip the “well, actually”. Correct what matters, kindly, and let the rest go.
• Don’t act surprised that someone hasn’t heard of something. It only teaches them to stop asking.

• Say what you’re trying to do, what you tried, and what happened instead.
• Paste error messages and code as text, not photos of your screen.
• When something works, say what fixed it, so the next person can find it.

• Disagree with ideas, not people.
• Assume good intent, and ask before assuming the worst.
• Keep feedback specific: what works, what doesn’t, and what to change.

• Harassment of any kind, including insults, threats, stalking and unwelcome sexual attention.
• Demeaning jokes or comments about anyone’s gender, religion, sect, ethnicity, caste, language, province, disability, age or sexuality.
• Mocking someone’s question, mistake, English or experience level.
• Sharing someone’s messages, personal details or application answers without their permission.
• Spam, self-promotion without context, and unsolicited DMs to sell, recruit or ask for money.
• Asking people to do your graded coursework, exams or job assessments for you.
• Heated political, religious or sectarian arguments. They aren’t what this space is for, and they push people out.
• Fake accounts, or pretending to be someone else.

The Discord server, live sessions and their chat, direct messages that start from the community, and any future Samosa Stack event, online or in person.

• Sessions aren’t recorded for now, so you can ask anything.
• Don’t record, screenshot or share other attendees without their permission.
• Slides, notes and code are shared with members after each session.

Depending on what happened, we may:

• have a private word and ask for a change
• give a written warning
• mute or time someone out
• remove them from the community

Harassment, threats and hate speech mean immediate removal. We’d rather help someone do better than remove them, but members’ safety comes first. If you think a decision was wrong, email us and we’ll look at it again.
